I just finished reading Man Alive today. I have been transformed by attending the group for the last nine months that Peterson established and i really wanted to know "why" i have changed so much...The Book gives incredibly practical insights into how to deal with "behind the scenes" problems of pornography and sexual struggles, pushing past the usual self help books that teach you how to white knuckle or worse, show you how to cut the wire that connects to the engine light on your dashboard.
Peterson's book establishes a foundation for serious men to become seriously free and fun guys who can live life to the full. It shows you how to get free and stay free and then dives into how freedom is meant for men who want to dream big and Peterson knows how to have big adventurous dreams that become a reality (read his other book - "Man on a Horse")
I'm a father of three and i've learnt that the greatest thing I can give to my kids is a foundation of character, purity and integrity on which to launch them from. Man Alive will show you how you can do that...if you're man enough to pick it up and do what it says.

The book ManAlive and its author Mark Peterson are the real deal. If you are serious about getting free from sexual sin - and ultimately allowing God to change your heart I would strongly recommend the book. But more so that you join an iManAlive group or starting one in your church. I've done so and the effect in my life has been life-changing. If you are reading this and you struggle with secret sexual addiction know that you don't struggle alone. There are real answers to the cries in your heart for your freedom. The real question is whether you are prepared to pay the price? A great start is to get the book. Then check out the iManalive website. Download their podcasts. Get into relationships with people around you. Learn how to be vulnerable and known.
Between the covers of this book you will discover the man, Mark Peterson. As I read through this I was challenged, pissed off, had "aha" moments and found myself immersed in some of the best life producing processes a man can live through. Mark is unequivocal about what it takes to become the man you were deigned to be. This book also has practical ways to implement all that he writes about. I was a sex addict until 2004 when I completed my recovery at New Creation Ministries in Fresno, CA. My task since then is to steward ( Oops, that's a church word) ... Ok, my task since then is to live a raw life as a man who will not let go of the freedom I have in my life and to bring this opportunity for freedom to other men.
I am integrating a number of core values in this book into how I live and into how I mentor other guys to break into freedom. Even though reading through this worked up strong emotions, I would still highly recommend reading this book and finding other men to walk out recovery with. Emotions are not bad. They are the indicator gauges on the dashboard of my life. When my gauge shows overheating then I need to stop and repair the cause before driving another mile! Mark's way of raw honesty and confrontation is driven by his compassion for men and their need to make decisions for change. Personally I've been impacted by one of the guys Mark speaks of in this book. A young man named Taylor.
I'm still leading the group that Taylor was a part of. While he was in our group he lead strongly in living out who he was. In fact the first Sunday service I attended at that particular church Taylor shared his testimony in the main service speaking openly about porn and masturbation. Such impact. This book is about men like him and many others. Young Taylor and I are four decades apart in age but I take notes whenever I hear him share. The lessons written about in this book gives guys like him and me building resources and tools to build their lies into what God intended for them.
Yes, I highly recommend this book if you are struggling in any way with sexual integrity.

Holy Crap. I actually read this book 5 years ago in it's first edition called "Get Naked" and it's crazy how much of it I didn't realize I couldn't understand the first time. I thought it was good then, but reading it for the first time since I've been sexually sober, I was blasted by the fire hose of good simple truths that hit me in new ways. The testimonies sprinkled throughout give me so much hope not just for myself but for the men I lead. If you want to know how to get sexually sober, and not just stay there, but to also walk in real freedom as a man, then Part 1 of this book is for you. If you want to know how to do this in a sustainable way that affects more than just you, then Part 2 of this book is for you. If you want to know how to handle the masses of men that will begin to pull on you and the men around you that have found freedom, then you need the rest of the book. Damn, Peterson. This is good
This is a pretty provocative stance on freedom so be ready. Mark will offend your mind to reach your heart but the result will be life. ManAlive has changed the way I view myself, my family and my friendships. I'm a small group leader and can tell you that the aggressive approach Mark teaches is the only way men come alive. Not everyone is ready. Some are stuck in cycles of passivity, unwilling to fight. This isn't "pray harder, try harder". This is an invitation to embrace hurt, face consequences, live transparently, love passionately, abandon self-reliance, make friends, cry, discover adventure, become reliable, consistent and trustworthy. To have your wife's dreams come true, have great sex, strong sons and daughters and relationships that are enviable. That's what I've found, what my friends have experienced and you'll get a taste of in this book.
